Latin Inscriptions from Egypt outside Alexandria

This paper deals with Latin inscriptions from Egypt and Nubia apart from Alexandria and its closest surrounds. The analysis of the whole set of inscriptions is followed by synthesis of its results and comprehensive description of latin epigraphic tradition in Egypt. The graffiti are also put in the broader context of the history of Roman Egypt, Roman military presence in this province, places where these inscriptions occur most often, but also other circumstances. Jewish settlement in the region of Kožlany. Epigraphic catalogue of the Jewish cemetery in Kožlany

The main subject of the thesis was to create epigraphic catalogue of th e Jewish cemetery in Kožlany, as one of the basis to the further knowledge of the Jewish settlement of studied region. The first part is devoted to methodological approaches and solutions of the documentation process of Jewish epigraphic heritage on which the terrain research and the subsequent evaluation has been carried out. The second part provides a summary of documentation and the third part presents evaluation of the data obtained, which is based on the epigraphic catalogue. The final part of the thes is is devoted to the history of selected Jewish families, whose members were buried at the cemetery in Kožlany.
Sepulchral monuments in the heritage conservation practice

The methodology book pioneers in presenting the forms and evolution of Christian sepulchral monuments dated from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, their decoration and epigraphic suit. The main part of the methodology book consists of chapters on recording, documentation, preservation and presentation of sepulchral monuments. The chapters on epigraphic and heraldic accessories are aimed to be directly used as sources for sepulchral monuments' recording. A lot of attention is paid to managing records of the monuments in the environment of the heritage conservation integrated information system.

The iconography of Jewish tombstones

This thesis deals with symbols on tombstones in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia. It is divided into two parts and includes an introduction and conclusion. Introduction deals with the reason why the author chose the topic, a brief outlining the procedures that have decided to use, and defines goals. The first part deals with topics that are closely associated with the symbols on the gravestones and tombstones themselves. The chapters in this section describes the association Chevra Kadisha, burial, tombstones and epitaphs. The second part, which is divided into seven chapters, contains a summary of all symbols along with their meanings, origin, relationship to the biblical text, dating etc. The main areas are motifs associated with the name of the deceased, symbols of functions, activities and work, ways of expressing the Torah, motives of crown, symbols associated with the origin, religious obligations and charity, symbols of grief and motifs associated with the olam ha-ba. The conclusion sums up the importance of the topic and the goal of the work, along with the director's evaluation her work with literature and her own ideas, with which she decided for the subject of The iconography of Jewish tombstones.

The Nobility in the Usti Region in the Context of Early Modern Heraldic and Epigraphic Relicts

The Nobility in the Usti Region in the Context of Early Modern Heraldic and Epigraphic Relicts The Ústí region is one of regions which were affected by a loss of historical memory after the Second World War. It was caused by the elimination of a large part of the cultural heritage to a considerable extent. The Royal Town "Ústí nad Labem" was a common and traditional centre of the region at the beginning of the Early Modern period. It had an influence on the development of the whole region on a number of aspects. The absence of a larger noble dominion with a major administrative centre gave a space to minor noble properties, and to a construction of humbler religious buildings. Churches and their movables are often only relics of the formerly spectacular noble representation in the region. A doctor thesis concentrates on the documentation and interpretation of heraldic and epigraphic relics through which people from five noble families presented themselves in the Ústí region. Bearers of sign and inscription elements have been put into the wide, especially art historical context of a cultural heritage fund of North-West Bohemia.
